Meghan McCain: Why the Hate, People?
Meghan McCain explains why the hatred in politics is a huge turn-off.

Meghan McCain took to her Daily Beast column to speak about the hatred she’s observed in political parties today and how it’s turning her off to the whole political process.
She writes, “The lines of social acceptability and just plain courteous behavior are becoming harder to define when it comes to politics, and for the first time in a long time I am truly concerned about where this fear and frustration in politics is taking us.”
McCain points out in particular how an irate conservative man screamed at her and her mother while shopping at a mall in Phoenix, and how a recent tweet of hers ignited accusations from her followers that she was an “Obamabot,” or a “zombie follower of the president.”

It sounds a little like McCain is tired of getting picked on (and picked apart) – but as she points out, that’s what happens when you’re in the public eye. But, she writes, her main concern is not about her own self-esteem, but about how all this political anger is affecting other people her age.
“I understand a certain amount of partisan pettiness, but what I don’t understand is why both politicians and pundits are not more vested in the next generation, in my generation, and the cultural and political climate they are leaving behind… If this is how I feel from all of the rancor, I can only imagine how disconnected the rest of my generation must feel. If politicians aren’t inspiring people when they are young, what hope is there that they will care when they are older?”
